Green Doors

Explore the many ways that homes and work-places can be made ‘green’.  The principles of sustainable and ecological design are now often used when planning and designing new buildings, so come and see the results.  Across Scotland, buildings that use traditional building techniques and materials or harness nature’s power will be on show.  You could even get some tips for "greening" your own home!

City-wide, Glasgow,  G1 1DT
Description
'Open Gates' - Image 1Glasgow introduces ‘Open Gates’ as part of its 2010 Programme.  For the first time, 12 Allotments across the City will open their gates to the public.  This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about what ‘grows’ on in some of the many allotments often quietly tucked away among our residential areas.
Activities
In addition to being shown around by the proud, industrious plot-holders, there will be a chance to sample some produce and hear how allotments originated.  Growing anything from traditional crops to soft fruit, exotic vegetables and medicinal herbs, some sites describe themselves as being ‘a peaceful escape from the city’. (Facilities vary site to site).
