Highlights

With so many buildings and events to chose from, we thought a few highlights might help to inspire you...

Dundee (18th September) are showcasing buildings linked to education and science. The University of Dundee’s Book & Paper Conservation Studio will run tours at 10.15 and 11.15. The Book and Paper Conservation Studio is a highly specialised resource within Scotland where a team of conservators care for our national heritage. They deal with everything from world-class collections of museums and archives, to single, cherished items belonging to members of the public. Enter this fascinating world and see first-hand what they do to preserve history. Click here for more information.

East Lothian (5th September) with the ‘Friends of Musselburgh Links’ are holding an open day at the new Stables Pavilion at Musselburgh Racecourse, Linkfield Road, from 12 to 4 pm. Displays will include the history of the Golf Course and the development of the reclaimed land. Information will also be available on the local birdlife, the John Muir Way and other related activities.  Click here for more information.

North Lanarkshire (11th and 12th September) have recruited the iconic Scottish drink Irn-Bru to be part of their programme. Tours of the factory must be booked and are available on Saturday 11th only. Barr Soft Drinks was started by Robert Barr in Falkirk in 1875. A second Barr soft drinks business was established in Glasgow in 1887 by Robert Barr's son, Robert Fulton Barr. Robert Fulton Barr's brother Andrew Greig Barr (from whom the company gets its name) took over his business in 1892, and in 1901 both Barr soft drinks businesses – A.G.Barr Glasgow and Robert Barr Falkirk - jointly launched their original recipe BARRS IRON BREW soft drink. The phonetic spelling IRN-BRU which we know today was introduced in 1947 and since then the brand has gone on to become the much loved and popular soft drink that it is today. The company has invested over £37m in the site's production, warehousing and distribution facilities in recent years, with plans to invest a further £10m in the site over the next 18 months. In 2009 Cumbernauld produced 25 million cases which contained 216 million litres of product. Click here for more information.
