Murroes Church - Image 1

This charming mid-19th century church replaced the original church built in 1208.  The medieval crypt and many stone features remain while four large stained glass windows (probably by C and L Ower) bring colour and light to the interior.

Murroes Church has been a seat of worship since its inception by Royal Charter signed by William 1 King of Scots in Forfar on 11th April 1203 and gifted by Earl Gilchrist on Angus. The Crypt is believed to contain the remains of some of the members of the Fotheringham family, landlords of Powrie and Ballumbie castles dating from the late 13th century.

Architect: William Scott
Building Date: 1848

Come and visit our church and explore the churchyard, which contains many 17-19th century tombstones.
