This weekend (Saturday 30th September) is the final day of Doors Open Days! There are 6 buildings to explore in South Lanarkshire and one in West Dumbartonshire.
Strathleven House is a category A listed Palladian mansion located on the outskirts of Dumbarton. Surrounded by scenic woodland, it is part of the Vale of Leven Industrial Estate. The building dates from 1700 and it is considered to be the first country house in Scotland built in the Palladian style. Enjoy tours of the building and talks on 18th century herbal remedies!
Explore the incredible Pettinain Church, set in a very old burial site and the fictional resting place of Jim Taggart’s Aunt Hettie! If you enjoyed exploring the iconic St. Peter's Seminary last weekend then you may want to check out St. Bride's RC Church, designed by the same architects. Get behind the scenes of Hamilton Sheriff Court and take part in a mock trial; book in for a tour of the incredible Hamilton Mausoleum to test out the record breaking echo and visit the historic East Kilbride Old Parish Church for guided tours of the church and graveyard. New to Doors Open Days this year is the Blantyre Old Parish Church opening its doors for a celebration of 450 years!
