With Doors Open Days just around the corner, we are kicking off August by posting an alphabet of some of the fantastic buildings that will be open next month!
G is for Glamis Manse Cross Slab, Angus. Tours are organised for Doors Open Days on Saturday the 8th of September.
This impressive Pictish cross-slab stands in a private garden. Tours have been organised by Historic Environment Scotland on behalf of the owner. On one side the stone bears an elaborately decorated cross and characteristic Pictish carvings including mythical beasts, a deer, triple disc symbol, and two men fighting with axes. On the other side of the stone there is a snake, a fish (probably a salmon) and a mirror.
Booking is essential. Meeting at 10 Kirkwynd, Glamis, DD8 1RT. Tours are available at 11am, 2pm and 3pm.
