The Lodge Temple was erected in 1910 at a cost of £1,446. The building is constructed from red sandstone from the Ballochmyle Quarries. The memorial stone was laid in full Masonic honours by the Provincial Grand Master, Bro Zachariah Henry Heys. It later became a category C(s) listed building in 1980 where it is noted as a 2-storey Scots Barionial Revival building with a turret feature. An extension was erected in 1994. An excellent example of 1920’s red sandstone construction, The Masonic Temple of Lodge Union and Crown No.307 stands not just as an icon of town history, but also as a meeting place for masonic bodies and community groups alike.
